Aims -
  • Informal weekend get togethers for participants booked on Atlantic Shores events later in the year.
  • A means for participants & guides to get to know each other socially and by paddling together as preparation for expedition events.
  • A chance for guides and participants to consider together the objectives, challenges and expectations of planned events.
  • A means for participants to be assured that their paddling capability and expectations align with their chosen events.
  • A chance to check equipment and operational details in advance of events.
Who will this event suit? -  Participants whose capability & experience is suitable for the events on the Atlantic Shores calendar.  Please refer to the specific event details and the trip grading guide.  This event will be at Grade B or C, with groups divided generally depending on the events they are planning to attend. You can find details of our event grading system here.
Logistics - The event will be based out of Anglesey Outdoors, Porthdafarch Road, Holyhead, Anglesey LL65 2LP GR:SH 23787, 80706; Latitude, Longitude: 53.29N, 4.64W info@angleseyoutdoors.com Tel: +44 1407 769351.    This is a sea kayaking centre with a campsite, bunkhouse, glamping and lots of great facilities (e.g. drying room & paddler's bar) to support sea kayaking!  You need to make & settle your own reservation but they have a block allocation of camping space for us.
Numbers - Maximum participants 10 per weekend.  We will be split in two groups.  Because of the small size of the group there will be lots of interaction and customisation to suit the needs of attendees.
Price - The price for each weekend is £100. If you are already booked  on one of our events then your participation at one of these weekends is free of charge. This event fee is refundable if you make a booking onto any of our events later in the year.

Friday Evening

  • Some people may be able to arrive earlier on Friday and that may allow some of us to have a short afternoon paddle somewhere local.  I'll make sure we have something planned based on meeting up early in the afternoon, but will be open to suggestions too.
  • In the evening we will meet up in the Paddler's Return - up to you if you want to self cater or eat there.  This will be a first chance for participants to meet up socially and a chance to discuss what the plans are for the weekend given the prevailing weather & conditions.

Saturday

  • A full days paddling doing one of the classic trips around Anglesey.  We'll arrange a meeting time depending on group plans - nominally 09h00, but could be earlier if necessary.  We can break into two groups on separate trips if it suits.
  • Probably around 20km, but with the opportunity for stops, playing around rocks and races etc.
  • There will also be an opportunity to be coached or practise skills if participants want.
  • In the evening we'll all have a meal and eat together as a group so that we have a good opportunity to talk about plans for trips later in the year that participants have signed up for or are considering.

Sunday

  • A different couple of classic trips around Anglesey.  Similar format to Saturday.
  • Depending how early people need to get away we can have a slightly shorter day, or start earlier! We can also choose paddling locations, or avoid shuttles that suit an easier departure if needed.
